We designed our client’s summer house (A Family Affair) two years ago. So when they purchased a newly-built four-floor vertical just outside the city in a picturesque New England college town, we couldn’t wait to give this busy family another beautiful place to call home. Kid-friendly zones, lots of storage, and multi-use spaces, we transformed their wish list into inspired, well-appointed interiors. Today, this daydreamy home is tailor-made for their lifestyle – complete with built-ins, punches of aquamarine, lots of texture, and sophisticated prints and wallpaper.
Toast of the Town

In the city, space is a challenge, so we outfitted the only dining area with an L-shaped built-in banquette. From the farm table to the performance fabric to the window treatments to the colorful pillows, texture is king. The pièce de résistance? A stunning chandelier to brighten up family meal time.

We turned a tiny, would-be closet into a powder room – which serves as the only bathroom on the main floor. It features a floating mahogany sink, a large-scale pattern blue wallpaper (to make the room appear more spacious), and a space-saving pocket-door.

Shapely sophistication comes to life in the glass pendants above the peninsula.

Aquamarine velvet sofas and accent pieces are perfect counterparts to the neutral backdrop.

The white console on the right solves the lack of an entryway closet situation quite beautifully. It’s a catchall for all things small but necessary – mittens, candles, throws, and shoes.

Space she can grow into – that’s the idea behind our client’s daughters playful yet sophisticated bedroom. A single wallpapered wall acts like a portrait – injecting pattern, color, and personality. The trio of star-inspired pendants joins our top ten favorite lights of all-time list.

This blue bedroom—which belongs to the couple’s son—is adjacent to the bathroom above. The penny round tile stripe design elevates the entire floor – which is dedicated to the kids.

Warm, calm, and collected, the master suite makes slipping away for some quiet time both restorative and inspiring. To help our client stay organized, we equipped a little nook in the room with a writing desk.

From the blue built-ins we designed – complete with barn doors and a daybed— to the 12-foot sectional with double chaises, this room is custom-made for the kids. Below, an imaginative painting makes the game/workspace area all the more inspiring.
